The challenge for any modern perfume navigating an olfactory stomping ground as well-trodden as vanilla is how to introduce a novel perspective. To do this, perfumer Maya Njie references her Swedish heritage with Sweden’s famous kardemummabullar cardamom buns.
To further subvert expectations, the toasted cardamom top note ushers in a warm cedar heart, which she underscores with the scent’s namesake vanilla to cast a boozy, rum-like hue across the robust woods.
Vanilj flips the script; turning its headline act into best supporting actor. Njie presents a fresh look at vanilla in its subtle exploration of familiar tones and comforting textures.
