Betelgeuse is another incredible olfactory exploration by In Astra. The star it's named after is one of the largest visible to the naked eye. If it replaced the sun at the centre of our solar system, it would engulf the orbits of Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. However, three years ago, Betelgeuse went dark. It was only recently determined that the dimming was caused by a piece of the star's atmosphere being ejected off into space.
For In Astra's interpretation, perfumer Sofia Bardelli places orris root in the heart of the composition. Orris root inherently has a character which shifts between the celestial with its undercurrent of sparkling ionones and the earthen with its loamy, vegetative nuances. She accompanies it with the apricot blush of osmanthus.
A rich dark coffee extract mixed with inky mosses cast deep creeping shadows, presenting a perfume that smells of deep shades of grey and shrouds of mystery.
